Wellborn Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Wellborn driveway and paver replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed, depending on the square footage, paver style, and whether we’re repairing a section or rebuilding the whole surface. We stock Wellborn-compatible paver units and edge restraints on our trucks, so most matching jobs get priced and scheduled in one visit. You usually know a paver has failed when you step on a corner that rocks, or when a section sinks after the winter rains and leaves a low spot that holds water against the garage slab.
Mason Remodeling is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Wellborn. We work with their paver lines because they hold up to Los Angeles sun and soil movement better than off-brand units, and because matching a failed section is far easier when the original spec is still available.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s paver lines include their standard 60mm residential units, the heavier 80mm units rated for driveway traffic, and their permeable series designed to let water drain through the joints instead of running to the street. Los Angeles homes built in the last fifteen years most often have the 60mm or 80mm Holland-style or tumbled units in earth tones. The easiest way to confirm what you have is to pull one full paver from an edge or a corner and check the underside for a raised Wellborn mold mark, or measure the thickness: 60mm is about 2 3/8 inches, 80mm is about 3 1/8 inches. That single measurement tells us most of what we need to know before we quote.
For the OEM versus aftermarket decision: Wellborn still manufactures their current paver lines, so we default to OEM when we’re matching an existing field. Aftermarket equivalents from a yard in Sun Valley or Irwindale can save a few dollars per square foot, but the color blend is never exact, and a mismatched patch in the middle of a driveway is the kind of thing you notice every time you pull in. Where we do use quality aftermarket units is full replacements, where there’s nothing to match and the homeowner wants to change the color or pattern entirely. Then it’s a design decision, not a compatibility one.

Signs Your Wellborn Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Rocking pavers. When a unit tilts under foot, the bedding sand has washed out beneath it, usually because an edge restraint loosened or a drain path changed. Left alone, the rocking spreads to neighboring units and the field starts to shift.
- Low spots that hold water. After a Los Angeles winter, sections settle where the base wasn’t compacted evenly or where tree roots pushed through. A low spot against the garage slab lets water sit against the foundation, which is a slow and expensive problem if ignored.
- Gaps growing between units. Pavers don’t stretch. If joints open up, the field is creeping outward, and that means the edge restraint has failed somewhere along the perimeter. Fix the edge, and the field usually stops moving.
- Cracked or spalled surfaces. The top layer of a paver can pop off after years of direct Los Angeles sun and a few hard impacts. One cracked unit is easy to swap; a whole field of them means the units were under-spec’d for driveway loading from the start.
- Weeds or ants coming up through the joints. The joint sand is gone, which means the pavers aren’t locking against each other anymore. This is the earliest warning sign, and the cheapest one to address.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Full paver driveway installation in Los Angeles runs $8,260 to $21,240, with the spread driven mostly by square footage, base condition, and whether we’re reusing existing pavers or installing new Wellborn units. A short driveway with a sound base might fall near the bottom of that range; a long, wide driveway with a failed base and new edge restraints will land at the top. Paver patio installation runs $4,130 to $12,980, and driveway replacement of an existing paver surface runs $5,900 to $16,520 when we’re pulling and resetting the units.
Every Mason Remodeling quote includes the paver units, bedding and joint sand, edge restraints, base repair as needed, haul-away of old material, and the labor to install it correctly. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and that’s the price you pay. We don’t write change orders on paver jobs because we see the whole job before we quote it. Workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the surface shifts or fails within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is safer to self-assess than most home repairs, but the assessment is where DIY should stop. You can safely pull a single edge unit to check thickness, measure your square footage, and take photos of the failing areas. What usually goes wrong with DIY paver repair is the base: a homeowner replaces the visible units but skips the base prep, and the patch fails again in six months. Hauling paver pallets is back-breaking work, and a full driveway involves thousands of pounds of material that most homeowners don’t have the equipment to move. We do.
If you’re looking at a small patio section you can reach with a wheelbarrow, a careful owner can do decent work. If it’s a driveway that carries two cars daily, call (803) 680-2547 and let us look at it. The estimate is free, and you’ll know exactly what you’re dealing with.
FAQs

A properly installed Wellborn paver driveway lasts 25 to 40 years in Los Angeles, with the paver units themselves usually outlasting the base beneath them. The units handle our sun fine; it’s the bedding sand and edge restraints that need resetting every 10 to 15 years. If your pavers are failing before 15 years, the original base prep was the problem, not the units. Call (803) 680-2547 for an assessment.
Most failing sections can be repaired by pulling the affected area, re-compacting the base, adding fresh bedding sand, and resetting the original units with new joint sand. Full replacement only makes sense when the base has failed across most of the field, or when the homeowner wants to change the paver style or color entirely. We’ll tell you which one you need, and the written quote reflects exactly that.
A typical paver section repair takes one day. A full driveway replacement in Los Angeles takes two to five days depending on size, base condition, and whether we hit unexpected soil issues when we excavate. You’ll have a written schedule before we start, and we work to it.
We keep Wellborn 60mm and 80mm Holland-style units in common earth tones on our trucks, along with edge restraints and joint sand. That means most matching repairs get priced and scheduled in one visit. For less common Wellborn styles or permeable series, we order directly and usually have units in hand within a week. We also stock parts and materials for KraftMaid cabinetry and Cambria and Silestone surfaces, so if your outdoor project touches an adjacent indoor space, we can handle that too.
If your Wellborn driveway or pavers are failing, know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up. Call (803) 680-2547 to schedule your free estimate in Los Angeles.
