Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service

Isaac Pruett, our owner, grew up watching his dad do finish carpentry and has spent two decades remodeling homes across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. He’ll tell you the same thing on a walkthrough that he’d tell you here: “Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up – everything else is just noise.” That’s how we run every Rancho Cucamonga Unilock service job in Ontario. You get the name and photo of your crew before they arrive, a written line-item quote, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. No verbal estimates that grow later.
We’re not a Unilock dealer and not manufacturer-authorized. We’re an independent General Contractor - Ontario masonry and hardscape crew that has placed Unilock pavers and wall systems across Ontario for years. That field time means we can match a Unilock line to your site – Brussels Block where you want old-world texture, Beacon Hill where you want clean chamfered edges – instead of selling you whatever is on the truck. When your existing Unilock pavers are sound but the base failed, we lift, re-screen, and relay them. Replacement is only the right call when the units themselves are cracked, spalled, or no longer produced in your color.
We also know what goes wrong. Hard, mineral-heavy municipal water leaves efflorescence on grey-toned pavers. Summer heat pumps polymeric sand out of tight 1/8″ joints along driveways. Poor base work bulges retaining wall faces. We plan for the failure modes before the first block goes down, which is why our paver work in Ontario stays locked and level through seasons that wreck cheaper installations.
Styles & brands we work with

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in Ontario
- Efflorescence bloom on grey-toned pavers. Ontario’s municipal water is hard and mineral-heavy. Irrigation overspray and winter rain pull those minerals to the surface, leaving a white, chalky film on Brussels Block and Umbriano pavers. We remove it correctly and adjust watering patterns so it doesn’t return in a month.
- Polymeric sand joint loss on driveways. Unilock’s tight 1/8″ joints are part of the look – but when summer heat cycles expand the pavers and daily vehicle loads flex them, the sand pumps out. Ontario summers regularly push past 100°F, and driveways on south-facing exposures take the worst of it. We re-sweep with a quality aftermarket polymeric sand rated for high-traffic joints.
- Retaining wall face bulging. Unilock’s Pisa2 and Olde Quarry walls bulge when the base wasn’t trenched below grade or a downspout dumps water behind the wall. Ontario’s older tracts have minimal drainage swales, which makes this the most common wall failure we see. We re-excavate, lay proper drainage stone and geogrid, and rebuild the face.
- Paver edge spalling and lippage on driveways. On Ontario’s expansive clay soils, a thin base that wasn’t compacted in lifts shifts and settles unevenly. Edges chip, pavers tilt, and the whole surface reads as sloppy. The fix is rarely the pavers themselves – it’s the base underneath. We demo to full depth and rebuild it right.
- Failed edge restraint. When the edge restraint fails, the outside course walks outward under vehicle loads and the driveway slowly grows wider and looser. It’s a small-looking problem that shortens the life of the whole installation. We install proper aluminum or concrete restraint on every rebuild.
Unilock Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Ontario’s older residential tracts – the streets off Euclid Avenue, around Ontario High, and through the neighborhoods between Grove Avenue and Vineyard Avenue – sit on expansive clay soils and were built with minimal drainage swales. That’s the detail most paver installers miss. Clay swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. Put a four-inch aggregate base over that and you’ll have shifting within two seasons. Put eight inches of properly compacted Class II base with positive slope away from the slab and you’ve got a surface that stays put for decades. This matters far more in Ontario than in cities sitting on sandy or decomposed-granite ground nearby. When we quote a Unilock driveway or patio in Ontario, we quote the base depth this soil actually requires – and we put it in writing so you can compare quotes honestly.
We learned this the hard way early on. A Brussels Block driveway off Euclid Avenue near Ontario High kept developing lippage, and the sand joints washed out every winter. We demoed the failed section, re-excavated to 8 inches of compacted Class II base, re-laid the existing pavers with new edge restraint, and re-swept polymeric sand. Six months of the homeowner’s daily SUV traffic later, the surface was still locked and level. The pavers weren’t the problem – the shallow base underneath them was.
Unilock Models & Products We Service in Ontario
We work with the full Unilock residential line: Brussels Block (tumbled, dimensional, great for textured driveways and patios), Beacon Hill (smooth, chamfered-edge, a cleaner look for modern homes), Umbriano (cobblestone-look paver with a mixed surface finish), and the Pisa2 and Olde Quarry retaining wall systems. For the visible surface and cap course we use Unilock-manufactured pavers and matching wall caps – no mixed-brand patches that look wrong. For what’s underneath, we use quality aftermarket base aggregate, polymeric joint sand, and edge restraints where they perform at least as well as OEM. And because we stock the common Ontario-requested colors and lines locally, we can often start re-lays and repairs without waiting on a special order.

FAQs – Unilock Construction in Ontario
Does an Unilock paver driveway hold up in Ontario’s summer heat?
Yes, when the base is built right. Ontario regularly hits 100°F-plus in July and August, and the main heat failure isn’t the paver itself – it’s the polymeric sand in the 1/8″ joints pumping out under thermal expansion and daily vehicle loads. We use high-temperature-rated polymeric sand and compact the base in lifts so the surface doesn’t flex. On a properly built base, Unilock pavers handle Ontario summers without cracking or shifting. Call (803) 680-2547 for an exact quote on your driveway.
Why does my Unilock patio look white and chalky after winter?
That’s efflorescence – mineral salts from Ontario’s hard municipal water and winter rain wicking to the paver surface as moisture evaporates. It’s cosmetic, not structural, and it’s common on grey-toned Unilock lines like Brussels Block and Umbriano. We remove it with the right cleaning process and can adjust the patio’s slope and nearby irrigation so it doesn’t come back every spring. Estimates are free – call (803) 680-2547.
Can you lift and re-lay my existing Unilock pavers instead of replacing them?
Almost always, yes. If your Unilock pavers are sound – no cracks, no spalling, no heavy chipping – we lift them, re-excavate the failed base, re-screen and compact properly, and relay the same units with new edge restraint and joint sand. You keep the pavers you already paid for and get a surface that stays level. Replacement only makes sense when the units themselves are damaged or the color you have is no longer produced. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you honestly which path fits your patio or driveway.
What’s the base depth you use for Unilock pavers in Ontario?
For driveways in Ontario, we go 8 inches of compacted Class II aggregate over geotextile fabric, with positive slope away from the slab. For patios, it’s 6 inches. That’s deeper than the 4-inch standard a lot of installers quote, and it’s the difference between a surface that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 25 on Ontario’s expansive clay soils. If you’re comparing bids, ask every contractor to put their base depth in writing. Ours will already be on the quote.
How much does an Unilock patio cost in Ontario?
A paver patio installation in Ontario typically runs $3,500 to $11,000, depending on square footage, paver line, access, and whether we’re starting from bare ground or removing an old concrete slab first. Brussels Block and Umbriano land at the higher end; Beacon Hill is usually mid-range. We hand you a written, line-item price before any work begins, so the number you sign for is the number you pay. Call (803) 680-2547 – estimates are free and there’s no pressure to book on the spot.
