Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a cracked, sunken, or shifting Techo-Bloc paver on your Los Angeles driveway, patio, or walkway, we can match it, replace it, and re-bed it properly. A typical single-paver replacement around a driveway runs $150 – $400 installed, while a larger paver repair section or full re-leveling job lands between $1,200 and $4,500 depending on square footage and base conditions. Most paver failures in Los Angeles show up the same way: you park the car one morning and notice one edge of the driveway has dropped a half-inch, or a paver wobbles underfoot near the hose bib. That’s usually not the paver itself failing. It’s the sand bed or base underneath letting go after years of sun-baked soil shift, tree-root pressure, or water eroding the joint sand.
One thing to know before we get deeper: Mason Remodeling is an independent contractor. We install and repair Techo-Bloc products, and we stock common replacement pavers and joint sand. We are not affiliated with Techo-Bloc, and when a product warranty claim applies, we’ll help you navigate it with the manufacturer directly.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc doesn’t make one “driveway paver.” They make several product lines with different thicknesses, surface textures, and edge profiles, and the wrong paver next to the right paver looks like a typo in your driveway. The lines we see most often across Los Angeles driveways and hardscapes are Blu 60, Blu Grande, Industria, Travertina, Mista, and Villagio. Blu 60 is the go-to for modern driveways; it’s a 60mm paver with a smooth, tight-joint face. Villagio and Travertina are more common on patios and pool decks, and using those on a driveway is a mistake we see occasionally when a previous contractor cut a corner.
Two checkable specifics that matter in Los Angeles:
- Thickness is not universal. Driveway-rated Techo-Bloc pavers run 60mm to 80mm thick. Patio-only lines run 50mm or less. If your driveway has 50mm pavers, that’s the root cause of most cracking. Vehicles are too heavy for the paver, and every pass of the car flexes the surface until it fails.
- The color blend matters as much as the line name. Techo-Bloc runs seasonal color blends under names like Shale Grey, Sandalwood, Champlain Grey, and Chestnut Brown. A “grey” paver from one production run may not match a “grey” from another run three years later. We ask for photos of the existing pavers, and if possible, a spare-paver match from the original install before we order.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Techo-Bloc pavers are concrete, and no true “generic equivalent” exists. However, for joint sand and base material, we use professional-grade polymeric sand from Alliance Gator and TechniSeal, which performs equal or better than the OEM-branded sand at a better price. When it comes to the paver itself, stick with the real Techo-Bloc product. A mismatched aftermarket paver will never cure to the same color or surface texture as the surrounding pavers.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Uneven or sunken sections. A low spot of a half-inch or more means the base has compressed or washed out. In Los Angeles, this often traces back to clay soil expanding and contracting through wet winters and bone-dry summers. The paver is fine; the ground underneath betrayed it.
- Pavers rocking or chattering when stepped on. A paver that moves underfoot means the bedding sand has migrated out from under it. Water running along the edge of the driveway is the usual thief, slowly washing sand out joint by joint.
- Widening joints with weeds or moss. In Los Angeles, weeds like spurge and oxalis find one hairline crack and work it open within a season. Joint sand is gone and root matter is now pushing the pavers apart from inside.
- Chipped edges or spalling surfaces. A paver face that flakes or pops is often a defect or a freeze-thaw issue, but in Los Angeles it’s more frequently impact damage or salt exposure if you’re near the coast. Spalling doesn’t self-heal; the paver needs replacement.
- Pooling water that didn’t pool before. If a section of the driveway holds water after rain or irrigation runoff, the pitch of the base has shifted. Over time that standing water migrates down and accelerates base erosion directly under the pavers.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles, here’s what we tell homeowners to expect:
- Single paver replacement (repair only): $150 – $400 installed, including color-matched paver (where stock allows), bedding sand, joint sand, and compaction.
- Small section re-level (up to 100 sq ft): $1,200 – $2,800, including pulling affected pavers, re-grading the base, adding compacted aggregate, and re-installing with fresh polymer joint sand.
- Large driveway or patio re-level / rebuild (100 – 400 sq ft): $2,800 – $4,500, depending on base condition and whether new paver stock is required.
- Full new Techo-Bloc driveway installation (if the old bed is unsalvageable): $8,260 – $21,240, per our standard paver driveway pricing for the Los Angeles market.
What drives the range is two things: how much base rock needs to be removed and re-compacted, and whether your Techo-Bloc color blend is currently in production or requires a special order with a longer lead time. You get a written price before anything comes out of the ground, and every repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it shifts, settles, or loosens within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Pavers are one of the more forgiving hardscape materials for a careful DIYer, but driveway pavers are not patio pavers. You can safely pull a single loose paver, inspect the sand bed, and sweep fresh dry sand into the joints if the base is still solid. What you shouldn’t do is lift a large section of driveway, dump a bag of sand under it, and call it good. Pavers interlock. If you disturb the edge restraint or break the interlock pattern, the whole section can creep sideways under vehicle weight within weeks. Driveway work means 60mm+ pavers, vehicle-rated base compaction, and proper edge restraints. That’s real labor, and when it goes wrong, the whole driveway starts walking toward the street.

FAQs

With a proper base, Techo-Bloc driveway pavers in Los Angeles last 25 to 40 years before the pavers themselves show meaningful wear or fade. The weak link is almost always the base and joint sand, not the paver, and we typically see base or sand issues at the 10 to 15 year mark around this city where clay soil and irrigation runoff take a toll. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your base is the problem or just the surface.
No, a cracked or spalled concrete paver cannot be stably patched or glued; the surface bond fails under load and temperature change. We pull the damaged paver, inspect the bed underneath it, and install a color-matched replacement paver from the same Techo-Bloc line. Call (803) 680-2547 with a photo and the square dimensions, and we can often identify the line from pictures alone.
A single paver swap takes under two hours on site, and the driveway is driveable that evening after joint sand is compressed. A section re-level of 50 to 100 square feet typically takes one full day, and we ask that you keep vehicles off the repaired area for 24 hours while the polymer sand cures. We’ll give you a clear time window and written price before we start.
We stock the most common Techo-Bloc driveway pavers in Los Angeles, including the Blu 60 and Blu Grande lines in popular grey and brown blends, plus professional polymeric joint sand on every service truck. If your exact color blend is out of production or has a long lead time, we’ll tell you that on the first call, not after we’ve pulled your driveway apart. We also stock parts and materials for other brands we install, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone.
