Tamko Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Mason Remodeling stocks and installs Tamko-compatible kitchen remodeling components across Los Angeles, with full kitchen remodels typically running $16,520 – $53,100 depending on cabinet layout, countertop material, and how much of the existing framing needs correction. Most Tamko-related failures we see aren’t the product itself – they’re installation issues from the original job, water intrusion around sink bases, or cabinet hardware that has worn past adjustment. If your Tamko kitchen cabinets, trim, or hardware aren’t holding up, we can usually diagnose the issue in one visit and give you a written price before any work starts.
Here’s the thing most Tamko owners learn the hard way: Tamko products are spec’d differently than what you’ll find on a big-box shelf, and matching a replacement part means taking measurements, not just grabbing whatever looks close. We’ve been remodeling kitchens across Los Angeles since 2004 under the Threshold Group family, and we’ve seen enough Tamko installs to know exactly what to check first. But before we get into symptoms and pricing, let’s talk about what you actually have in your kitchen.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko has produced several kitchen product lines over the years, and the compatibility picture depends on which series you’re working with. The most common in Los Angeles homes we’ve remodeled are the Tamko Heritage and Tamko Builder series cabinets, plus the newer Tamko Pro line that shows up in mid-2000s and later construction. Each series uses different hinge boring patterns, drawer glide lengths, and finish chemistry – a Heritage doorskin will not match a Pro cabinet even if the color name sounds the same.
Before you order anything, check the inside face of a drawer box or the back of a cabinet door. Tamko usually stamps the series name and a date code there, and that date code matters more than owners realize. Tamko changed their hinge spacing from 42mm to 48mm on most door lines around 2012, and a drawer glide from a pre-2012 cabinet will not seat properly in a newer frame even though it looks identical at a glance. That’s the gotcha we see most often: someone buys a “Tamko-compatible” replacement glide online, it doesn’t fit, and now the drawer is wedged shut.
For OEM versus aftermarket, we’ll be straight with you. For hinges, slides, and internal hardware, quality aftermarket parts from Blum, Salice, or Hettich often outlast Tamko OEM hardware and cost about 20 – 35% less. For finish-matched doorskins, drawer fronts, and trim, OEM is the only route if you want a color and grain match – aftermarket finish-matching in Los Angeles runs hot and cold depending on the shop, and we’d rather tell you to wait for OEM than guess. We also stock Tamko-compatible hardware for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone surfaces when we’re already in the home for a Tamko job.

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawers stick or drop on one side. The glide has lost its bearing cage or the mounting clip has pulled loose from the cabinet side. This is almost always a hardware issue, not a box failure, and it’s the most common Tamko repair call we get in Los Angeles.
- Cabinet doors won’t stay closed or sit crooked. Hinge fatigue or stripped hinge screws. Once the screw hole wallows out, adjusting the hinge won’t hold – the hole itself needs a real fix, not a toothpick-and-glue job.
- Water staining or swelling at the sink base or under the dishwasher return. Tamko cabinet boxes are dense particleboard in most lines, and once they wick water, they swell fast. The fix usually involves plumbing correction plus a partial cabinet rebuild, not just a fresh doorskin.
- Finish peeling or chalking on doors near the stove or a window line. UV exposure and heat cycling in Los Angeles kitchens break down the clear coat on Tamko’s thermofoil and painted lines faster than the coastal fog houses you’ll see in Venice or Playa del Rey. If the finish is failing on multiple doors, refinishing the full set is usually smarter than chasing individual replacements.
- Trim or crown molding separating from the cabinet tops. This is a structural tell more than a cosmetic one. Los Angeles summers push and pull on everything, and when the original install didn’t properly anchor upper cabinets to wall framing, moldings separate first. It’s a warning sign the cabinet box itself may be moving.

DIY or Call Us?
If your drawers are sticking or a door is sagging, you can safely remove the drawer box and look at the glide. You can check whether a hinge plate is loose. You can take a photo of the Tamko series label. What you should not attempt is pulling a swelling cabinet box away from the wall, cutting out water-damaged sections under a sink, or trying to re-hang a cabinet that’s pulling from wall framing – that’s a two-person job with a real risk of the cabinet coming down on you, and water-damaged boxes can hide mold behind them that needs proper remediation before rebuild. There’s no shame in checking first and calling second. In fact, that’s the smart order.
If you’re in Los Angeles and the issue is beyond hardware adjustment, call (803) 680-2547. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician you’ll know by name and photo before they arrive, per the Threshold Standard. No guesswork, no pressure, no surprise line items.
FAQs

Tamko cabinet boxes generally last 15 – 25 years in Los Angeles homes depending on sun exposure, humidity cycling, and how well the original install managed sink and dishwasher moisture. Hardware typically fails first – hinges and glides often need replacement by year 8 – 12, long before the boxes themselves. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll assess what’s actually failing rather than guessing.
Yes, if the cabinet box is structurally sound, we can replace hinges, glides, doorskins, and trim while preserving the original boxes. If the box has water damage or the face frame is separating, a partial or full replacement is usually more cost-effective than trying to save what’s already failed. Call (803) 680-2547 for an exact answer on your kitchen.
Hardware replacement on a typical Tamko kitchen takes 1 – 2 days. A full kitchen remodel runs 4 – 8 weeks, depending on cabinet lead times and whether we’re correcting framing, plumbing, or electrical along the way. We’ll give you a written schedule before work starts, not after you’ve committed.
We stock Tamko-compatible hinges, glides, and common hardware on our trucks for most Los Angeles service calls. Finish-matched doorskins and custom trim are ordered per job because matching your specific Tamko series and date code is the only way to get the color and grain right. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you what we have and what needs to be ordered before you spend anything.
