Sakrete Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Sakrete driveway and paver installations in Los Angeles typically run $8,260 to $21,240 for a full paver driveway, while concrete driveway work using Sakrete products lands between $5,310 and $14,160. We stock Sakrete-compatible materials and install them regularly, and we can usually start your project within a week of the free estimate. Most Los Angeles homeowners call us after noticing cracks, sinking pavers, or concrete that’s spalling – flaking off in chunks – usually after a few years of sun and soil movement.
Isaac Pruett has walked enough Los Angeles driveways to know what fails first. It’s rarely the Sakrete mix itself. It’s the prep underneath. But we’ll get to that.
Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

This guide covers the Sakrete products used in Los Angeles driveway and paver work: Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix, Sakrete Crack-Resistant Concrete Mix, Sakrete Sand Mix (for paver bedding), Sakrete Paver Set (polymeric sand), and Sakrete Top’n Bond (for resurfacing). Each one has a different job, and matching the wrong product to the wrong layer is a common error we see from weekend work.
The compatibility gotcha: Sakrete Paver Set is not interchangeable with regular sand. Polymeric sand hardens after water activation, locking pavers together. Regular sand washes out. In Los Angeles, where we get sudden downpours between droughts, that distinction matters. The bag labels carry a strength spec in PSI – 4000 PSI for High-Strength, 5000 PSI for Crack-Resistant – and we check that before ordering anything.
Mason Remodeling is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Sakrete or its parent company. We stock genuine Sakrete bags because homeowners ask for them by name, and we carry quality aftermarket equivalents for bedding sand and base material where the brand doesn’t matter.

Signs Your Sakrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Cracks running wider than a quarter inch. Los Angeles soil expands and contracts with moisture – clay-heavy soil in the Valley moves a lot. A crack that size means the base layer is shifting, not just the surface.
- Pavers that rock when you step on them. The bedding sand has eroded underneath, usually from water pooling. One rocking paver becomes ten within a season.
- Concrete flaking or chipping in sheets. This is spalling. In Los Angeles, it’s often from too much water added during mixing, or salt exposure in hillside areas where de-icing happens on cold winter mornings.
- Weeds pushing through paver joints. The polymeric sand has broken down. Weeds don’t grow through solid joints – they grow through gaps.
- Sunken areas that hold water after rain. The gravel base was never compacted properly, or the soil beneath it settled. This is the most expensive fix and the one nobody catches early.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles work, here’s what pricing looks like:
- Paver driveway installation: $8,260 – $21,240
- Concrete driveway installation (Sakrete mixes): $5,310 – $14,160
- Driveway replacement (tear-out and redo): $5,900 – $16,520
- Paver patio installation: $4,130 – $12,980
- Driveway sealing: $295 – $825
Every number includes materials, labor, haul-away of old material, and our written price before work starts. The range depends on square footage, access (narrow Los Angeles driveways cost more in labor), whether we’re reusing existing pavers, and how much base repair the job needs. You’ll get a line-item quote, not a round number pulled from the air.
The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything isn’t right within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost to you. That includes paver settlement, cracking beyond normal curing, or polymeric sand failures.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your driveway. Look for the signs above. Check drainage – does water pool against the slab or run toward the house? That’s a grading problem no amount of new concrete will fix. You can also confirm which Sakrete product was used by checking old bags in the garage or receipts from the original installer.
What you shouldn’t do is tear out a driveway yourself. Concrete dust is silica dust, and breathing it without a proper respirator damages your lungs. A full paver job means lifting hundreds of pounds of material, and doing it wrong just means paying someone to redo it. We’ve replaced plenty of driveways where the homeowner spent a month on demolition and still needed us for the pour. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you straight what the job needs.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway lasts 25 to 40 years in Los Angeles, while a concrete driveway using Sakrete mixes typically runs 20 to 30 years. The sun and soil movement are the two factors that shorten that, and both are worse in the Valley than on the Westside. Call (803) 680-2547 for an honest assessment of your current driveway’s remaining life.
Yes, if the crack is narrow and the base isn’t moving, we can repair it with Sakrete Top’n Bond or a crack filler, usually for a few hundred dollars. If the slab has sunk or the base has failed, patching buys you a year or two at most before you’re replacing it anyway. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
A standard paver driveway takes three to five working days in Los Angeles, and a concrete driveway takes two to four days including curing time before you can park on it. Weather and permit windows can shift that, but we’ll give you a schedule in writing before we start. Call (803) 680-2547 for a timeline on your specific job.
We stock Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix, Crack-Resistant Mix, Sand Mix, and Paver Set on our trucks, so you don’t need to source anything. If you already bought bags yourself, we’ll credit the retail cost against your invoice. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll work with what you have.
We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior work, but driveways are our concrete-and-paver lane.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up – everything else is just noise.
