Owens Corning Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your Owens Corning roof is leaking, lifting, or losing shingles, we can match the exact product line, install the replacement correctly, and stand behind the work. Typical Owens Corning roof repairs in Los Angeles run $470 – $2,125, and full replacements range $9,440 – $23,600 depending on roof size, pitch, and the specific Owens Corning shingle line. Most owners discover the problem after a Santa Ana wind event or the first heavy rain of the season, when a small failure suddenly shows itself as a stain on the ceiling.

Mason Remodeling is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Owens Corning, but we work with their products daily, and we know exactly how the different lines behave on Los Angeles roofs.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning splits its residential shingles into three main lines: the Duration series, the Oakridge series, and the entry-level Supreme line. Duration is the one we see most often in Los Angeles, particularly Duration Flex and Duration Designer, because the SureNail strip makes it hold up better under wind uplift. Oakridge shows up a lot on mid-century ranches in the Valley and parts of the Westside. Supreme is the budget line, and honestly, in our climate it ages faster than the other two.

The compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: Owens Corning shingles are not interchangeable across series. A Duration shingle is thicker and has a different exposure than an Oakridge shingle, and mixing them on the same slope looks wrong and voids the manufacturer’s wind warranty. If you’re repairing a section rather than replacing the whole roof, we match the exact series, color, and lot when possible. We also stock OEM Owens Corning starter strips, ridge caps, and leak barriers, because using a mismatched aftermarket ridge cap is the fastest way to make a good repair look like a patch job.

If you’re not sure what you have, check for a barcode or label on a spare bundle in the garage or on the underside of a lifted shingle tab. The product name is printed there. No label? We can identify it on-site.

Signs Your Owens Corning Roofing Is Failing

  • Granule loss clogging your gutters. Owens Corning shingles shed granules as the asphalt ages. If you’re seeing dark sand collecting at downspouts after a light rain, the shingle surface is breaking down faster than it should, often from prolonged UV exposure on south-facing slopes.
  • Curling or cupping shingle edges. This typically signals trapped moisture in the attic or an aging shingle reaching the end of its functional life. On Owens Corning Oakridge roofs, we see this start around year 15 in Los Angeles sun.
  • Lifted shingle tabs after wind. The seal strip fails, and the tab lifts without tearing. If caught early, we can reseal it. If it’s happening across the roof, the shingles are losing adhesion and wind-driven rain starts finding its way underneath.
  • Staining or dark streaks on shingles. In humid canyons like Studio City or parts of the Hollywood Hills, algae growth is common. It looks bad but isn’t a structural failure. However, it often gets mistaken for water damage, so it’s worth having us confirm what you’re actually looking at.
  • Interior ceiling stains or damp attic insulation. This is the late-stage signal. By the time water reaches the ceiling, it has already passed through the shingle, the underlayment, and often the decking. The repair is almost never just one shingle at that point.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

Roof repair in Los Angeles runs $470 – $2,125 for a typical isolated failure, while a full Owens Corning roof replacement runs $9,440 – $23,600. The spread comes down to roof size, pitch, number of stories, and whether the old underlayment needs to come off. A single-story 1,200-square-foot ranch in the Valley is a very different job from a three-story hillside home in Echo Park.

Every quote we give is a written price before any work starts. That price includes the Owens Corning materials, tear-off if required, underlayment replacement to current code, installation, haul-away, and a written guarantee covering the workmanship for 365 days from the completion date. We don’t hand you a verbal number and then “discover” problems later. The price you sign is the price you pay.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a real difference between inspecting and repairing. You can safely check your own roof from the ground or a ladder: look for missing tabs, lifted edges, granule buildup in gutters, and any obvious flashing gaps around vents or chimneys. That tells you what to tell us when you call.

Walking a two-story roof with a bundle of shingles on your shoulder is a different story. Los Angeles roofs have pitches that range from gentle to genuinely steep, and the consequences of a fall aren’t worth saving a few hundred dollars. We’ve fixed homeowner patches where the wrong sealant was used, where the shingle was nailed in the wrong place, and where a small leak became a new water heater for the room below. If you’re on the fence, call us at (803) 680-2547. We’ll give you an honest read on whether it’s a small fix or a full replacement before you commit to anything.
