KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have KraftMaid cabinetry in your Los Angeles kitchen and a door, drawer, hinge, or cabinet box has failed, this page tells you exactly what it costs to fix or replace it. A full KraftMaid kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on kitchen size, cabinet line, and whether you’re replacing boxes or just faces and hardware. We stock KraftMaid-compatible hinges, drawer glides, door bumpers, and touch-up kits on our trucks, and we can match most KraftMaid door styles and finishes for partial replacements without gutting the whole kitchen.
The most common way Los Angeles homeowners discover a KraftMaid part has failed is a drawer that suddenly won’t close flush, a hinge that’s sagging, or a cabinet door that won’t stay shut even after adjusting. Sometimes it’s the soft-close mechanism worn out, sometimes it’s a hinge screw stripped from ten years of daily use, and sometimes it’s the cabinet face frame itself that’s shifted with the region’s dry summers and damp winters. Whatever the failure looks like, the fix usually costs far less than a full remodel, and it starts with identifying exactly which KraftMaid line you have.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid has produced dozens of cabinet lines over the years, and part compatibility comes down to three things: the series, the door style, and the year it was built. If you have Venicia, Vantage, or Passport Series cabinets, you’re working with KraftMaid’s frameless construction, which uses different hinge plates and drawer glides than the more common framed lines like Durham, Lexington, or Benton. The hinge mounting pattern on a Venicia door won’t accept a standard face-frame hinge, and vice versa. This is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Los Angeles homes: a well-meaning owner buys hinges online, the screw holes don’t line up, and now they have stripped or drilled-out doors.
To identify your KraftMaid line, look inside a cabinet door for a manufacturer’s stamp or a white sticker with a barcode. It usually includes a model number, door style name, and production date. If the sticker is gone, measure the door overlay (the amount the door overlaps the cabinet frame) to the sixteenth of an inch. KraftMaid doors are typically full overlay (1/2 inch reveal shows 1/2 inch of frame), standard overlay, or inset on the Passport line, and each takes a different hinge. OEM KraftMaid parts are available but carry long lead times (often 4 to 6 weeks out of KraftMaid’s Ohio facility), while quality aftermarket equivalents from Blum, Grass, and Salice are usually in stock and often outperform the original part. We use both, depending on the age of your kitchen and the finish you need to match.

Signs Your KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Doors sag or rub against each other. This is nearly always a worn hinge or a stripped hinge screw. On KraftMaid maple and cherry doors, the weight of the door works the hinge cup over time until the door drops 1/8 inch or more. If you can lift the door and feel play in the hinge, the hinge itself is done.
- Drawers drift open or slam shut. KraftMaid’s soft-close glides have a piston mechanism that wears out after roughly 10 to 15 years of daily use. When the piston fails, the drawer loses its dampened close and either slams or won’t stay closed. Replacing the glide is a 20-minute fix for us.
- Finish is peeling or bubbling near the sink or dishwasher. Los Angeles tap water is hard, and steam from the dishwasher strips the conversion varnish on the lower cabinets faster than anywhere else in the kitchen. This is a finish failure, not a structural one, and it’s repairable without replacing the cabinet box.
- Soft-close doors click but don’t actually slow down. The little nylon damper inside the hinge cup is cracked. You’ll hear a click when the door closes because the damper is flexing instead of cushioning. This is a $10 part on most KraftMaid lines.
- Cabinet boxes are pulling away from the wall or each other. This happens in older Los Angeles kitchens where the original installer didn’t use enough screws into studs, or where years of minor seismic movement have loosened the fasteners. The boxes themselves are usually fine; they just need to be re-secured, shimmed, and re-leveled.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what KraftMaid kitchen remodeling work costs in Los Angeles, installed, with labor and parts both in the number. Small kitchens fall at the low end, larger kitchens with islands and pantry walls fall at the high end.
| Scope of Work | Los Angeles Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Full kitchen remodel (KraftMaid cabinets, counters, backsplash) | $16,520 – $53,100 |
| Small kitchen remodel | $10,620 – $23,600 |
| Cabinet installation only (KraftMaid or compatible) | $4,720 – $15,340 |
| Countertop installation | $2,360 – $7,670 |
| Backsplash installation | $945 – $2,950 |
| Kitchen island installation | $3,540 – $11,800 |
What drives the range is mostly cabinet count and cabinet grade. A 10×10 KraftMaid kitchen with stock doors and laminate counters sits at the bottom; a 16×20 kitchen with custom islands, Cambria or Silestone counters, and full-height pantries sits at the top. We give a written price before any work starts, on every project, every time. The price on your written estimate is the price you pay: no change orders, no surprise invoices. Every completed project carries a written guarantee, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise means if the work is not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you. I’m Isaac Pruett, and I grew up in Sylmar, so I know exactly how Los Angeles kitchens age: the dry heat, the hard water, the seismic settling. I check the trim work on every job before I consider it done, because my dad was a finish carpenter and sloppy trim is the first thing I see.
DIY or Call Us?
Some KraftMaid parts are genuinely safe to check yourself. You can tighten a hinge screw, adjust a door with a Phillips screwdriver, or clean a drawer glide with a dry rag. Those are adjustments, not repairs, and they’re fine to try. What we don’t recommend is drilling new holes in cabinet doors, prying off face frames, or attempting to re-hang a cabinet box by yourself. A full-loaded upper cabinet can weigh 80 to 100 pounds, and if it comes off the wall while you’re under it, the math is bad. That’s a job for two people who do it every week.
If you’re not sure whether your KraftMaid kitchen problem is an adjustment or a repair, call us at (803) 680-2547. We’ll tell you over the phone what you’re likely dealing with, and if it needs a visit, we’ll send a background-checked technician with a name and photo before arrival so you know exactly who’s coming to your door.
FAQs

KraftMaid cabinet boxes are built to last 25 to 40 years in a Los Angeles kitchen, but hinges, drawer glides, and soft-close mechanisms typically wear out in 10 to 15 years with daily use. The boxes almost never fail first; the moving parts do.
In most cases, yes. Sagging doors, slamming drawers, and worn soft-close parts are all repairable by replacing the hinge, glide, or damper, and we stock those on our trucks. The exception is water-damaged cabinet boxes near the sink or dishwasher, which usually need to be rebuilt because particleboard has no structural recovery once it swells. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you which category your kitchen falls into.
A hinge or drawer glide replacement takes 20 to 45 minutes per cabinet. Re-facing doors and drawer fronts on a full kitchen takes 3 to 5 days. A complete KraftMaid kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs 4 to 8 weeks depending on counter fabrication and permit timing.
We stock KraftMaid-compatible hinges, drawer glides, soft-close dampers, and touch-up kits on our trucks, and we can source OEM KraftMaid doors and drawer fronts from our supplier network. We also carry compatible parts for Cambria, Silestone, and Kohler products we install. You won’t be waiting 6 weeks on a backorder unless it’s a custom finish.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up – everything else is just noise.
