IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle and membrane repairs across Los Angeles typically run $470 to $2,125 depending on how far the damage extends, and most IKO part swaps are done in a single visit since we carry common IKO-compatible replacement materials on the truck. You usually find out something failed when a shingle shows up in the yard after a Santa Ana wind event, or water stains appear on the ceiling a day or two after heavy rain. Isaac Pruett put it plainly: roofs don’t send you a warning text before they leak.
We’re an independent Los Angeles roofing contractor, not an IKO affiliate, and we work with their Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, and Marathon lines regularly. The quick math: if it’s a small repair, you’re looking at a few hundred dollars. If your IKO installation has reached the point where large sections are failing, a full roof replacement in Los Angeles runs $9,440 to $23,600.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s lineup in Los Angeles breaks into three categories, and the compatibility issues are different for each. Cambridge is IKO’s architectural shingle line, the most common one we see on Los Angeles homes, with the telltale laminated double-layer profile. Dynasty is their heavier architectural shingle, distinguishable by the wider exposure and heavier grain. Nordic is their performance line rated for higher wind uplift, which matters in the San Fernando Valley corridors where gusts hit 60 mph before noon. Marathon and Marathon Plus are three-tab shingles, the entry-level option that fails faster in California UV exposure than any architectural line.
The identification trick for a partial repair: check the bundle wrapper still in your garage or the shingle width. Cambridge shingles run 13¼ inches wide with a 5⅝-inch exposure. Dynasty runs 13¼ inches wide too, but the exposure is 5¾ inches. If you’re looking at a three-tab Marathon, it’s 12 inches wide with a 5-inch exposure. Mismatched exposure means the repair line won’t lay flat and water will find a seam. On the aftermarket question: generic three-tab shingles work visually on Marathons but don’t carry IKO’s wind warranty rating, so if your area of Los Angeles sees high-wind exposure, OEM IKO or a rated equivalent is the honest recommendation.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
- Granule loss collecting in gutters or at downspout elbows. Los Angeles heat bakes the asphalt layer, and once enough granules slough off, UV reaches the mat and the shingle starts cracking. If your gutters look like the bottom of a sandbox after a dry summer, the shingles are nearing the end.
- Lifted shingle tabs at the leading edge. The adhesive strip on IKO shingles can break down over time, especially on south-facing slopes in Los Angeles where daytime heat cycles daily. If tabs don’t seat flat after a rain, water can work underneath and rot the decking.
- Curling or kinked shingles along the eaves. This one often traces back to a ventilation problem, not the shingle itself. Attic heat in Los Angeles climbs past 140°F in August, and without balanced intake and exhaust, the shingles cook from both sides and curl like old photographs.
- Missing shingles after wind events. The San Fernando Valley and canyon-adjacent neighborhoods like Sherman Oaks and Studio City get real gusts. If you’re losing shingles more than once a year, the sealant strip is gone and the roof is past the point of one-off repairs.
- Water stains on ceilings or walls under roof intersections. Valleys, pipe collars, and chimney flashings are where IKO roofs fail first in Los Angeles, not in the open field of shingles. A stain doesn’t tell you where the leak starts, but it tells you one exists, and waiting turns a $470 flashing fix into a $2,000 deck repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, IKO roof repairs fall into two buckets. Spot repairs like replacing a handful of shingles or resealing a pipe collar run $470 to $1,180. Larger repairs that involve replacing decking, rebuilding a valley, or re-flashing a chimney run $1,180 to $2,125. If the IKO roof is past the repair point, full replacement runs $9,440 to $23,600 in Los Angeles depending on square footage, slope, tear-off depth (one layer versus two), and shingle line.
Every Mason Remodeling roof repair includes the same things: the IKO-compatible replacement materials, removal and disposal of damaged material, inspection of the surrounding 10 square feet for hidden damage, and the labor to install and seal everything properly. You get a written price before we touch the roof. If the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. Not a phone-tag warranty negotiation. A return visit.
DIY or Call Us?
The DIY line for IKO roofing is drawn at a ladder. If you’re comfortable on a ladder and want to check the condition of shingles, flashings, and gutters from the edge, that’s a safe inspection and it helps you know what you’re looking at. What goes wrong for homeowners is walking the roof surface. Los Angeles roofs after a decade of UV are brittle, and a 180-pound homeowner on a 6/12 pitch in the wrong shoes creates more damage than the original problem, not to mention the fall risk. Roof work is dangerous enough that we recommend a trained professional for anything beyond a visual check from the ladder. If the flashing or shingles need actual replacement, call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll give you a free estimate on the repair.
FAQs

IKO architectural shingles like Cambridge and Dynasty typically last 18 to 25 years in Los Angeles, while three-tab Marathon shingles realistically last 12 to 18 years because our UV index is brutal on thinner shingles. South-facing slopes cut roughly 20% off those numbers. If your IKO roof is past year 20 and showing granule loss or curling, start budgeting for replacement rather than chasing repairs. Call (803) 680-2547 for a roof condition assessment.
IKO shingles can absolutely be repaired if the damage is localized (a wind-lost shingle, a small flashing leak, a pipe collar failure), but once granule loss and curling are widespread across multiple slopes, spot repairs become a losing game. The honest test is whether the shingles around the damaged area still flex without cracking. If they snap when bent, repair is throwing money at a roof that’s done. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
A typical IKO shingle or flashing repair in Los Angeles takes 2 to 4 hours, including setup, the repair itself, and cleanup with a magnetic nail sweep. Larger repairs that involve decking replacement or valley rebuilds can run a full day. We’ll give you the time estimate in writing before work starts, and it’s fixed.
We keep common IKO-compatible repair materials on the truck: Cambridge and Dynasty shingle bundles in the Los Angeles colors we see most often, ridge caps, pipe collars, and flashing material. For rare color matches we source from Los Angeles roofing supply yards, which adds a day to the schedule, not a week. We’ll tell you at the estimate whether your repair is same-visit or next-day. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll check availability for your IKO line and color.
