Cover Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a Cover window or door that’s no longer opening, sealing, or locking the way it should, we can match the failed part to your specific unit and install it correctly. Typical replacement work in Los Angeles runs between $470 and $2,950 depending on whether we’re swapping a roller, a handle set, a multi-point lock, or an entire sash. Most owners first notice something’s wrong when a window that used to glide suddenly sticks, or a door that used to latch dead-center now takes two hands and a shoulder to close.

We’re Mason Remodeling, an independent Los Angeles service provider. We’re not affiliated with Cover, but we work on Cover windows and doors every week, and we know how their hardware wears in this climate. Isaac Pruett started running these calls years ago, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: the window or door itself is rarely the problem. It’s almost always a $30 part that stopped doing its job.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Cover’s window and door product line in the Los Angeles market spans three main categories: aluminum sliders, vinyl casements and awnings, and multifamily entry door systems with integrated hardware. The parts we match most often include rollers, balance springs, hinge sets, handle sets, multi-point lock bodies, and weatherstripping channels. Before you call, look for a small white or silver label on the inside edge of the frame or the top of the door panel. It will have a serial number, a model designation, and sometimes a manufacture date. That label is the single most useful thing you can have ready.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha with Cover that most people don’t know: their window hardware changed suppliers at least twice in the last decade, so the roller assembly from a 2015 unit will not fit a 2021 unit that looks identical from the outside. You have to match the roller width, the wheel diameter, the housing profile, and the adjustability range. Cover does not sell direct to the public, which pushes many Los Angeles homeowners toward generic aftermarket parts from the big box stores. Some of those are fine. Some are not. We’ve seen generic rollers wear out in 18 months where the OEM-equivalent part would have lasted five years. For safety-critical parts like balanced springs on large picture or sliding windows, we recommend OEM-equivalent quality every time. For cosmetic items like caps and trim clips, a quality aftermarket equivalent is usually just fine. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • The window drags or grinds when you slide it. This almost always means a roller or roller housing has worn flat on one side. The metal wheel inside is no longer round, so the window is riding on the housing itself. Ignoring it scores the track, and then you’re paying for a track replacement instead of a $30 roller.
  • The door handle turns but the latch doesn’t move. Inside a Cover entry door, the handle drives a gear that connects to the multi-point lock. When that gear strips, which we see regularly on doors that face afternoon sun in the Valley and West LA, the handle spins freely. The door still latches, but it’s not actually locked.
  • You hear a soft rattle inside the frame when the window moves. That’s the balance spring or block coming loose inside the jamb. On a double-hung, the window may stay up on its own today and drop hard without warning tomorrow. That’s the one we say is worth fixing before it becomes a finger injury, especially in homes with kids.
  • Drafts or visible light around the sash edge. Weatherstripping on Cover window lines has a lifespan in Los Angeles of roughly 6 to 8 years. The heat and UV exposure dry out the vinyl pile and compress the gaskets. The window frame and glass are usually still sound, but the seal is gone.
  • The sliding door is heavy to push and the track looks scratched. Screen doors and glass sliders in Cover multifamily units carry a lot of weight on two small rollers per panel. When one roller fails, the panel drags, the track gets chewed, and eventually the panel can jump the track entirely.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

In Los Angeles, our Cover parts jobs typically fall into three price bands. A roller, latch, or handle swap runs $470 to $825 installed, including the part, the service call, adjustment, and a written warranty on the work. A weatherstripping or balance-spring refresh runs $710 to $2,125 depending on how many windows we’re doing in one visit; the per-unit cost drops when we’re working on four or five windows in the same afternoon. A full window or door panel replacement, where the frame itself is compromised or the glass unit has failed, lands between $5,310 and $17,700, which matches what we’ve already covered on our window replacement page for the Los Angeles market.

Every quote is written and in your hand before any work starts. It covers parts, labor, cleanup, and disposal. If we open the wall or the frame and find additional damage, we stop, we show you, we quote the added work, and we don’t proceed until you approve it. No change orders you didn’t see coming. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every parts repair: if the installation fails within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s our honest answer. Replacing a visible handle set or a screen door roller is a hand-tool job a careful homeowner can pull off in an hour, and we’re happy to tell you which aftermarket part to buy and how to align it. What we don’t recommend doing yourself is anything involving balance springs, high-tension hardware, or windows that have come out of their track. A balance spring under load carries enough tension to break a finger or a wrist if it releases the wrong way. We won’t dress that up. If the window frame has to come apart or the door panel has to be lifted off its rollers, call a trained technician.

If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (803) 680-2547 and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a DIY candidate or a service call. Either way, you’ll know who’s coming, what it costs, and what’s backed up before anyone sets foot in your house.
