Cambria Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cambria quartz surfaces are built to last decades, but when you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Los Angeles, the Cambria slabs you choose need to be fabricated, templated, and installed by a team that understands the product’s tolerances. A full home addition with Cambria surfaces in Los Angeles typically runs $53,100 to $153,400, and ADU construction with Cambria finishes lands between $106,200 and $259,600. Most owners call us when they realize their existing Cambria countertops won’t survive a wall move or layout change intact, or when they need new Cambria for a growing space and don’t want a separate countertop vendor slowing the job down.

What we see most often: a homeowner starts an addition or ADU project, only to discover that the countertop fabricator they hired won’t touch Cambria because it requires diamond tooling and a different edge profile approach than granite or laminate. Or the slab gets cut wrong on-site because someone measured once. Cambria is a specific product with specific handling requirements, and in a Los Angeles market full of unlicensed fabricators, that distinction matters.

We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cambria, which means we call it like we see it: Cambria is worth the money when it’s installed correctly, and a headache when it isn’t. Below is everything we’ve learned doing these jobs across Los Angeles neighborhoods, from Sylmar to Silver Lake to Long Beach.

Key takeaways:

  • Installed Cambria pricing for Los Angeles additions and ADUs runs $53,100 to $259,600 depending on scope.
  • Cambria slabs are 1cm, 2cm, and 3cm thicknesses; 3cm is the standard for kitchens and ADU countertops and does not require plywood underlayment.
  • Mason Remodeling delivers a written price before any work starts, and every crew member is identity-verified before they reach your door.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria doesn’t sell “models” the way an appliance brand does. Instead, you’re matching by slab series, thickness, and finish. The key Cambria detail that trips up Los Angeles homeowners: Cambria is a natural quartz surface, and it comes in three thicknesses. The 1cm and 2cm options are for vertical applications like backsplashes, shower walls, and fireplace surrounds. The 3cm slab is what you want for kitchen counters, bathroom vanities, and any horizontal surface that will see daily use in a Los Angeles ADU or addition. If a fabricator quotes you 2cm for a countertop, walk away; that slab is not rated for unsupported horizontal spans in a kitchen, and no amount of plywood underlayment makes it right.

Within the Cambria line, you’ll see collections like the Marble, Coastal, Desert, and Waterstone series, along with the newer Inverness and Brittanica designs. All are 93% quartz with the same hardness rating, so the model decision is about color and pattern, not durability. The real gotcha: Cambria edge profiles. Unlike granite, which can take a chiseled or rough-hewn edge, Cambria’s composite structure means it’s cut to a crisp, modern edge profile, and a sloppy fabricator will chip the edge on a straight run. We specify pencil, eased, or bevel edges on Cambria, never a half-bullnose, which looks wrong on quartz composite.

For the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: there is no aftermarket Cambria. It’s a proprietary product, and if someone claims to sell you “Cambria-equivalent” slabs, they’re selling a different quartz brand, full stop. Silestone and Caesarstone are legitimate competitors with similar durability, but they’re not Cambria, and the color match won’t be identical if you’re adding to an existing run. When you’re adding square footage in Los Angeles and trying to match an existing Cambria counter, you need the actual Cambria slab number from the original install, which is laser-etched on the underside of the slab, usually near the front lip under the sink or at a corner. If you can’t find it, we can help identify your color from the current Cambria catalog, but that’s a color-match exercise, not an exact match.

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

Cambria itself rarely fails. What fails is the installation. Here are five signs you’re dealing with an install problem on your Los Angeles home addition or ADU, not a product problem:

  • Chipped edges along the front lip. This happens when a fabricator cuts the slab with a dull diamond blade or rushes the edge polish. Cambria’s composite structure chips more visibly than natural stone, and once the chip is there, it catches your eye every time you walk into the room.
  • Separation at the seam. In a long kitchen run or an ADU with an L-shaped counter, two Cambria slabs get joined with an epoxy seam. A proper seam is nearly invisible. A failing seam shows as a dark line that widens seasonally, because the installer didn’t level the substrate underneath or used the wrong seam adhesive.
  • Hollow sound when you tap the counter. A properly installed 3cm slab sits directly on the cabinet tops with shims at every contact point. A hollow sound means the slab is spanning a gap and flexing, which will eventually crack the stone or pop the seam.
  • Quartz dust on the floor near a seam or edge. Cambria shouldn’t shed. If you’re wiping fine white dust from the seam area, the slab is rubbing against itself or the edge is grinding against a cabinet, and that will get worse, not better.
  • Stains that won’t lift with a pH-neutral cleaner. Cambria is non-porous and doesn’t require sealing. If you’re seeing stains sink in, the installed surface isn’t Cambria, or the slab was resurfaced with a cheap coating at some point. Either way, it needs a pro to look at it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

For an addition or ADU scope in Los Angeles, here’s what line-item pricing looks like with Mason Remodeling:

  • ADU Construction (full unit with Cambria kitchen and bath surfaces): $106,200 – $259,600
  • Home Addition (room, kitchen, or bath with Cambria installed): $53,100 – $153,400
  • Countertop Installation (Cambria slab, mid-size kitchen): $2,360 – $7,670
  • Kitchen Island Installation (Cambria top, standard size): $3,540 – $11,800
  • Bathroom Vanity Installation (Cambria top): $945 – $3,540

What drives the range on additions and ADUs is square footage, foundation complexity, and how much of the existing structure we’re cutting into. In Los Angeles, hillside lots and older slab foundations add cost; a flat lot with a 1960s tract home frame is usually on the lower end. The Cambria portion of these budgets is the countertop fabrication and install line, and we don’t bury it. You’ll see the slab cost, the template fee, the fabrication, and the install as separate line items, because that’s how a written price should work. Every Cambria install we do as part of an addition or ADU is covered by our written guarantee for 365 days from the completion date. If a seam opens or an edge chips because of our work, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

On the Cambria side, there’s almost no safe DIY. These slabs weigh 12 to 14 pounds per square foot, which puts a standard kitchen island top at 400 pounds or more. Moving one without the right suction cups and a two-man lift is how countertops crack and fingers get crushed. Templating is also a precision job: the template laser or digital scan has to capture sink cutouts, faucet holes, and wall out-of-square conditions within an eighth of an inch. That’s not a measure-twice, cut-once scenario; it’s a measure-with-the-right-tool scenario. Isaac Pruett has seen too many Los Angeles homeowners buy a beautiful Cambria slab, watch a buddy with a wet saw freehand the sink cutout, and end up with a $4,000 paperweight.

Where you can save money honestly: demolition. If you’re pulling an old counter, you can handle the disconnect of the sink plumbing and the removal of the old laminate or tile top, as long as you kill power to any hardwired appliances first. But the moment the slab goes in, let a crew that does this weekly handle it. We stock Cambria fabrication capabilities in-house, and our countertop crews are the same background-checked, uniformed teams that handle the rest of your addition, so you’re not coordinating a mystery subcontractor. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll walk you through what your project needs.
