Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cambria driveway and paver replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed, depending on square footage, existing base condition, and paver style. Most paver failures we see are not the Cambria stone itself but the sand base, edge restraints, or drainage beneath it. The good news: if your pavers are sinking, cracking, or separating, we can usually salvage most of the existing stone and rebuild the failed sections at a fraction of full replacement cost.

What owners usually notice first is a paver that wobbles underfoot, a low spot that holds water after rain, or a stretch of driveway where the joints have blown out and weeds are pushing through. By the time you see it, the base underneath has typically been failing for months. In Los Angeles, the culprit is usually one of three things: clay soil that expands and contracts with our wet winter/dry summer cycle, tree roots from mature ficus or oak, or a base that was never compacted to spec in the first place.

Key takeaways:

  • Most Cambria paver failures are base failures, not stone failures
  • Sinking or wobbling pavers can often be reset without full replacement
  • Drainage correction is the difference between a fix that lasts and one that fails again in two years
  • We carry Cambria-compatible polymeric sand, edge restraints, and base material on our trucks

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Cambria is primarily known as a quartz countertop manufacturer, but the Cambria name appears in the hardscape world through their architectural stone and paver lines used in driveways, walkways, and patio applications. Mason Remodeling is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Cambria. What that means for you: we match the paver you have, not the brand sticker on the pallet.

The compatibility question matters because paver dimensions are not universal. Cambria-style architectural pavers come in modular sizes, typically 6×6, 6×9, 12×12, and 16×16 inches, with thicknesses that vary between 2-3/8 inches (standard residential) and 3-1/8 inches (driveway-rated for vehicle loads). If you mix a 2-3/8 inch paver into a driveway built with 3-1/8 inch units, you will feel the height difference within a month. The old paver usually has the dimensions stamped on the underside, but if it does not, we measure on site before quoting anything.

One compatibility gotcha specific to Los Angeles: some older drives built in the 1990s used a 60mm paver that is no longer manufactured domestically. If that is what you have, we source a 2-3/8 inch equivalent and adjust the base height to match, so you are not forced into a full teardown over a discontinued size.

We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Silestone, and Kohler lines, which matters if your remodel touches more than the driveway.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Wobbling or rocking pavers. This means the bedding sand layer has eroded or washed out beneath the stone. It will not fix itself, and driving over it accelerates the damage by cracking adjacent pavers.
  • Sinking or low spots that hold water after rain. Almost always a base compaction issue or a drainage problem underneath. In Los Angeles clay soil, this worsens every wet season as the ground swells and contracts.
  • Widening joints where polymeric sand has blown out. Once the joint sand is gone, pavers grind against each other and chip edges. Left alone, the individual stones start to shift out of alignment.
  • Cracked or split pavers in the tire tracks. Vehicle weight concentrated on a base that was never rated for driveway use will crack even quality stone. This is the most common reason we replace individual pavers rather than reset them.
  • Edge restraints lifting or disappearing along the border. When the plastic or aluminum edging fails, the outer pavers have nothing holding them in line. The whole field starts to creep outward, and you will see gaps opening at the curb or walkway transition.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

In Los Angeles, paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240 for a typical two-car drive. Concrete driveway installation runs $5,310 to $14,160, and full driveway replacement lands between $5,900 and $16,520 depending on what is underneath. If you only need a section reset, not a full tear-out, the cost drops considerably, and we will tell you that upfront rather than selling you a full replacement you do not need.

What drives the range:

  • Square footage. A 400-square-foot drive costs far less than a 900-square-foot drive plus walkway.
  • Base condition. If the existing gravel base is intact, we save it. If it has turned to mud, we excavate and rebuild it.
  • Drainage work. Adding a channel drain or regrading the slope adds cost but prevents a repeat failure.
  • Paver style and availability. Discontinued sizes cost more to source, and premium finishes run higher than standard tumbled stone.

Every quote is a written price delivered before any work starts. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.

DIY or Call Us?

Resetting a single wobbly paver is something a patient homeowner can handle with a rubber mallet, some sand, and an afternoon. Rebuilding a section of driveway that has sunk because the base failed is a different job entirely. That requires excavating to the proper depth, compacting in lifts, checking slope with a laser level, and reinstalling edge restraints properly. Get the compaction wrong and you will be redoing it in two years.

The honest split: if you have one or two pavers that wobble, try the DIY fix. You will know within a month if it held. If you have a low spot, a drainage problem, or pavers cracking in the tire tracks, the base underneath is the problem, and that is not a weekend project. Isaac Pruett has spent nearly two decades watching Los Angeles driveways fail, and the ones that fail twice are almost always the ones where someone skipped the base work to save money. Call (803) 680-2547 and we will tell you honestly whether you are looking at a reset or a rebuild, and what each one costs in writing before you commit.
