Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
A full Boxabl kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100, and we can usually start within two weeks of your written estimate. Most Boxabl owners call us when the original compact kitchen layout has become a daily bottleneck: the two-burner cooktop is fine for a weekend, but it collapses under real cooking, the single-basin sink can’t hold a proper pot, and the factory cabinetry starts showing edge delamination within a few years of regular use. You bought a Boxabl knowing exactly what you were getting, and now you’re ready to turn the kitchen into the room you actually want to cook in.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

We work on the Casita and the standard Boxabl models, plus any Boxabl accessory dwelling unit configured with the standard kitchen module. The key compatibility issue with any Boxabl kitchen remodel is ceiling height and wall rigidity: the interior walls are engineered panels, not wood studs, which means standard cabinetry anchors often won’t hold the way they would in a traditional Los Angeles house. We use toggle-lock anchors rated for composite wall systems and adjust mounting rails to the 9’6″ ceiling height that Boxabl specifies on the Casita. If you have the factory spec sheet, the kitchen module is listed under “Interior Finish Package,” but we don’t need it: we’ve measured enough of these units to know exactly what we’re working with before we spec your cabs.
For cabinetry, the OEM Boxabl setup is functionally basic thermofoil over MDF. In Los Angeles, where indoor humidity swings hard between coastal fog mornings and dry Santa Ana afternoons, thermofoil edges start lifting within three to five years. We install aftermarket KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry spec’d for compact spaces, which gives you real plywood boxes and maple faces instead of wrapped particleboard. Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone surfaces ride on those cabinets with proper substrate support, because a quartz top on a flimsy base is a crack waiting to happen the first time someone leans on the edge.

Signs Your Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that won’t stay shut or aligned. The original hinges are compact euro-style but the cabinet boxes flex slightly with the building’s settling. Once a door drifts 1/8″ out of plane, the hinge adjustment is maxed and you’re into replacement territory.
- Countertop seams that have opened up. Boxabl’s module joints are meant to move, and a laminate top with a visible seam will eventually catch water and swell along that line. Swollen substrate under laminate can’t be sanded back level.
- Sink lip caulking that fails repeatedly. The factory sink is mounted tight to the module wall, and when the unit shifts in transit or on its foundation, the joint moves with it. Recalking buys you a season at best.
- Drawer slides that bind or rattle. The original slides are light-duty full-extension units. If you’re opening that bottom drawer three times a day, the plastic rollers wear out fast and the drawer starts listing.
- The galley flow that never worked in the first place. This isn’t a mechanical failure, but it’s the #1 reason Los Angeles Boxabl owners pull the trigger on a remodel: the factory layout puts the fridge, sink, and cooktop in a straight line with no work triangle and no landing space next to the cooktop.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the straight Los Angeles pricing for a Boxabl kitchen remodel, installed, with all materials and labor:
- Full Boxabl kitchen remodel (cabinets, counters, sink, backsplash, layout adjustment): $16,520 – $53,100
- Small kitchen remodel (compact Boxabl, cosmetic refresh): $10,620 – $23,600
- Cabinet installation only: $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop installation only (quartz or solid surface): $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 – $2,950
- Kitchen island installation (where layout permits): $3,540 – $11,800
What drives the spread is countertop material (laminate sits at the bottom, Cambria or Caesarstone quartz at the top), whether we’re rerouting the sink or cooktop position, and how much of the original plumbing stub-out has to be reworked. Every Boxabl kitchen remodel from Mason Remodeling includes the written price before we start, demo and haul-away of the old setup, all permits pulled and inspections scheduled, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything’s not right within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely handle the cosmetic end: swapping the faucet, changing cabinet pulls, or adding a peel-and-stick backsplash if the wall surface is clean and smooth. Where DIY goes sideways on a Boxabl kitchen faster than a traditional Los Angeles home is in the wall anchoring. These panels are not forgiving of misplaced fasteners, and a cabinet run that pulls off the wall can injure someone and tear a hole in the module that’s expensive to patch correctly. Countertop work with quartz or solid surface also isn’t a weekend project: the material is heavy, brittle at the wrong angle, and a dropped edge sends a thousand-dollar slab to the dumpster. If you’re considering a full layout change, call us at (803) 680-2547 first. We’ll give you a written number and you can decide from there.
FAQs

The factory Boxabl kitchen is built to a price point, not a lifespan standard: plan on 5 to 8 years of hard use before the cabinet boxes, laminate tops, and compact appliances start telling you it’s time. In Los Angeles humidity swings, thermofoil cabinet doors usually go first, then the countertop seams. Call (803) 680-2547 for a free in-person assessment and we’ll tell you honestly what has life left in it and what doesn’t.
Sometimes, yes. A single delaminated cabinet door can be re-faced, and a lifted sink caulk joint can be re-bedded, provided the substrate underneath is still sound. But once you’re looking at three or more failing components, patchwork repair costs start approaching the price of a small remodel without solving the underlying fit and finish problems. We’ll give you both numbers and let you choose.
Most Boxabl kitchen remodels in Los Angeles are completed in 10 to 14 working days from the day we start demo. That covers cabinet replacement, countertop templating and installation, backsplash, and finish plumbing. If you add structural changes to the module or a full appliance swap, add three to five days. Your written estimate includes a start date and a completion date, not a range.
We stock the common installation hardware we use on Boxabl work: toggle anchors rated for composite panels, compact euro hinges, adjustable mounting rails, and edge-banding materials. Full cabinetry and countertop orders are spec’d per project and take 1 to 3 weeks to arrive at our Los Angeles shop, depending on the brand and the finish. We’ll tell you the lead time before you sign anything.
