Boral Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Boral fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a standard backyard run, including the Boral posts, rails, and boards plus full labor. We stock Boral-compatible fence materials and can usually have a crew out within a few days of your free estimate. Most homeowners discover they need this page the same way: a fence board cracked after a wind storm, a post leaning after heavy rain, or a section that never looked right after the original install. You’re not looking for a sales pitch. You want to know if your Boral fence can be salvaged, what the replacement will cost, and whether the next crew will do it correctly. That’s what this page covers.

One thing up front, so there’s no confusion: Mason Remodeling is an independent Los Angeles contractor. We install and repair Boral fencing, but we’re not affiliated with Boral or any manufacturer. We buy the product, we know how it goes together, and we stand behind the finished work.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral makes a few fence lines that show up across Los Angeles backyards, and the part numbers matter more than most homeowners expect. The two we see most often are the Boral Post & Rail system and the Boral Board-on-Board privacy fence. Both use Boral’s proprietary composite material: a blend of wood fibers and recycled polymer that’s denser than typical vinyl fence and heavier than cedar.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into weekly: Boral posts are sized for a 4×4 or 5×5 opening, and they do not accept standard wood fence brackets without an adapter. If a previous contractor mixed big-box hardware into a Boral system, the fence may look okay for a season and then start sagging where the rails meet the posts. Check the inside face of any board. Boral stamps their boards with a product code, usually a series of letters and numbers near one end. If the stamp is worn off, measure the board thickness. Boral boards run a true 0.625 inches thick, not the 0.5-inch thickness of standard composite decking. That extra eighth of an inch changes how they sit in the rail channel.

OEM Boral parts are the safest choice for color match and fit. Aftermarket equivalents exist, and we’ve installed them when a specific Boral profile has been discontinued, but the color match is never exact after a few months of direct Los Angeles sun. If the fence section faces south or west, stick with OEM. The UV shift in aftermarket boards is noticeable within a year.

One more note: we also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products across our remodeling work, so we’re used to matching owner-supplied materials with the right installation hardware. Boral fencing is no different: correct fasteners and brackets prevent most of the failures we’re called to fix.

Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing

Fences fail slowly, then all at once. Here’s what we see on Boral fences across Los Angeles, from the San Fernando Valley to the South Bay:

  • Leaning post at the base. In Los Angeles clay soil, a post set in concrete without a gravel drainage layer will trap water at the bottom and start tilting within two or three wet seasons. Boral posts are heavy, so a leaning post puts real strain on the rails.
  • Sagging rail where it meets the post. This almost always traces back to the wrong bracket or a bracket installed without the Boral rail adapter. The rail channel stretches, and the whole section drops half an inch.
  • Board cupping or bowing. Boral boards are dense, but they still expand and contract with temperature. Leaving no expansion gap at the board ends causes the boards to buckle in a Los Angeles heat wave. We see this most on fences installed in cooler months.
  • Color fading unevenly. Fading happens. Uneven fading means someone replaced a few boards with aftermarket stock that didn’t match the original Boral color formula. It’s usually visible within six months.
  • Loose post caps or missing hardware. Small thing, real problem. A missing post cap lets water sit inside the hollow Boral post, and over a wet winter that water can freeze at night in the colder parts of Los Angeles County and crack the post from the inside.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Boral fence installation in Los Angeles, homeowners should budget $4,130 to $10,620. That range covers removal of the old fence section, new Boral posts set in concrete with proper drainage, rails with the correct Boral adapters, boards in your existing color profile, post caps, and all labor. A shorter run of 30 to 40 linear feet lands at the lower end. A full backyard enclosure of 100-plus linear feet with a gate pushes toward the top.

What drives the price: linear footage, how many old posts need concrete demolition, whether the current fence sits on a slope or uneven grade, and access to the work area. If your existing posts are solid and only the boards and rails failed, the job often comes in below the range above.

Every quote is written out before work starts. You’ll see the parts line by line, the labor, and the total. No verbal estimate that changes on the final day. Our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of the completion date, we come back and make it right at no cost to you. Terms are stated in writing, including what’s covered and what’s excluded, so there’s no debate when a question comes up.

Boral Fence Job Type Typical Los Angeles Installed Cost
Replace 30-40 linear ft of Boral fence $4,130 – $5,900
Replace 50-75 linear ft with one gate $5,900 – $8,260
Full backyard, 100+ linear ft with gate $8,260 – $10,620
Post replacement only (per post) $350 – $590
Rail and board replacement, posts reusable $2,950 – $5,310

As Isaac Pruett puts it: know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up – everything else is just noise.

DIY or Call Us?

You can inspect your own Boral fence safely. Look for loose post caps, visually check rail brackets, and run a level against a post to see if it’s plumb. That’s worth doing before you call anyone, because it tells us what we’re walking into.

Replacing Boral fence sections is where DIY goes wrong. The posts are heavier than standard vinyl, which means a hand auger and bag of quick-set concrete from the home center won’t hold them in Los Angeles wind. Setting a post correctly requires depth below the frost line, a gravel base for drainage, and the right bracket spacing for Boral rail channels. If the post is set wrong, the whole section leans within a year, and you’ve spent a weekend building a problem. Composite fence systems also don’t forgive mistakes the way wood does. A misdrilled hole in a Boral board is permanent.
