American Standard Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have an American Standard kitchen and you’re dealing with a failed fixture, a cracked sink, a worn faucet cartridge, or cabinetry that’s pulling away from the wall, we can match the part and handle the install. A typical American Standard kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on how much of the kitchen we’re rebuilding around that failed component. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a slow drip that won’t stop, a sink that’s suddenly sitting half an inch lower than the counter, or a drawer face that falls off in their hand one morning.
We’re Mason Remodeling, and we’ve been working on kitchens across Los Angeles since 2004. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with American Standard, but we know their product lines well enough to tell you in the first five minutes whether the part is worth saving or whether the surrounding cabinetry and countertop have to come out with it.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard has made kitchen sinks, faucets, and fixtures across several distinct lines over the decades, and the compatibility rules are not forgiving. The Colony series uses a cartridge that fits only Colony models, not the Reliant or Heritage lines. The Ceramix disc faucets use a different valve body entirely. If you have an older Cadet or Roma kitchen faucet, the stems are discontinued and an aftermarket rebuild kit is often the only path that doesn’t require replacing the whole faucet.
Here’s the gotcha we see regularly in Los Angeles homes built in the 1980s and 1990s: the original American Standard faucet may say “American Standard” on the escutcheon, but the supply lines and shutoff valves underneath were swapped at some point for off-brand parts. We check under the sink before ordering anything. A faucet cartridge replacement is $150 to $400 installed in Los Angeles, but if the faucet body is cracked from hard water or age, you’re looking at full faucet replacement, which runs $350 to $850 including the fixture and labor.
OEM parts are the right call for anything still under warranty or for fixtures less than eight years old. For older American Standard models, a quality aftermarket cartridge or stem from a manufacturer like Danco or BrassCraft often performs as well as the original, and it’s available same-day instead of waiting a week for a special order.

Signs Your American Standard Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Faucet drips even with the handles fully closed. This is usually a worn cartridge or a pitted ceramic disc. The rubber seat inside the cartridge breaks down after 8 to 12 years of daily use, and hard water in Los Angeles accelerates that timeline.
- Sink has visible cracks or hairline fractures around the drain. American Standard’s enameled steel and cast iron sinks can crack from impact or thermal shock. Once a crack reaches the drain flange, the sink will leak into the cabinet below every time you run water.
- Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are separating from the frame. This is less about the American Standard name and more about age and humidity. Kitchen cabinetry in older Los Angeles homes often has particleboard boxes that swell and crumble once moisture gets in. We can rebuild boxes, reface fronts, or replace cabinetry entirely depending on how far it’s gone.
- Handles spin without engaging the valve. That’s a stripped stem or a broken internal gear on a pull-out faucet. The faucet body may be fine, but the internal transfer gear is a one-piece plastic unit. When it fails, the handle turns and nothing happens.
- Countertop is pulling apart from the sink rim. The sealant between the sink and the stone or laminate counter has failed. Water gets underneath, and over time that rots the substrate. In Los Angeles, where kitchens get daily use and cleaning, this is one of the most common issues we walk into.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full American Standard kitchen remodeling project runs $16,520 to $53,100. That range covers everything from a modest kitchen refresh with new American Standard fixtures, a refaced cabinet set, and a new countertop, up to a full gut-out with new cabinetry, island, stone surfaces, and an upgraded plumbing rough-in.
Here’s how the pricing breaks down across Los Angeles:
- Small kitchen remodel: $10,620 to $23,600
- Cabinet installation: $4,720 to $15,340
- Countertop installation: $2,360 to $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 to $2,950
- Kitchen island installation: $3,540 to $11,800
Every quote includes the parts, the labor, the haul-away of the old materials, and a written price before we start. The variance comes down to what’s behind the walls. If your Los Angeles home still has galvanized supply lines from the 1960s, those get replaced during the rough-in. If the subfloor under the cabinet run is water-damaged, that gets repaired before the new cabinets go in. You’ll know the exact number before we open anything up.
Our workmanship warranty covers the installation for 365 days from the completion date. If something fails because we installed it wrong, we return and fix it at no charge. That’s not a promotional offer. It’s a written term on every contract.
DIY or Call Us?
A faucet cartridge swap is a Saturday morning job if you have the right tool and the water shutoffs work. But before you start, turn off the angle stops under the sink and check whether they hold. In older Los Angeles homes, those shutoff valves are often frozen open, which means you’ll need to kill the main water supply. That’s when a 20-minute DIY project turns into a wet afternoon and a call to us anyway.
The parts we warn people about are the ones under the sink, not the ones on top. If your American Standard faucet has a pull-out spray hose, the quick-connect fitting under the sink is under constant water pressure. When it fails, it can separate and flood the cabinet. We do not recommend a homeowner replace a sprayer hose without replacing the quick-connect and the weight assembly at the same time. If you’ve got any doubt about whether your shutoffs are good, call us at (803) 680-2547. We’ll send a technician who can tell you in ten minutes what’s safe to handle yourself and what isn’t. The estimate is free.
FAQs

American Standard kitchen faucets and sinks typically last 10 to 15 years in Los Angeles, though hard water can shorten a cartridge’s life to 6 or 8 years. The faucet body itself rarely fails; it’s the internal cartridge, the sprayer hose, or the mounting hardware that gives out first. If the fixture is over 12 years old, replacing it is usually cheaper than chasing parts.
Yes, if the leak is coming from a worn cartridge or a degraded O-ring, and the faucet body is intact. We stock common American Standard cartridges on our trucks and can usually have a faucet working again within an hour. If the body is cracked or the mounting threads are stripped, repair isn’t an option and it’s time for a new fixture. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll give you an honest read over the phone or in person.
A focused American Standard fixture swap takes 1 to 3 hours. A full kitchen remodel in Los Angeles takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on permit timing, material lead times, and the condition of the walls and floor we uncover. We’ll give you a written schedule with the written price, and we stick to it.
We stock common American Standard cartridges, sprayer hoses, mounting rings, and supply lines on our service trucks. For model-specific parts on older or discontinued lines, we order same-day from local Los Angeles supply houses. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products, so we can handle the surfaces and cabinetry around the plumbing without juggling three contractors.
