ActiveYards Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
ActiveYards fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete fence replacement with a standard ornamental aluminum or vinyl panel. We stock ActiveYards-compatible posts, panels, gates, and hardware on our trucks, and most swap-out repairs can be priced in writing the same day we look at the fence. What usually brings homeowners to us is a gate that won’t latch after a windstorm, a panel that cracked when a sprinkler head kept hitting it, or a post that leaned after a heavy rain softened the soil around it in neighborhoods like Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills, or the foothills near La Crescenta. You notice the problem quickly because it changes how the fence feels: the gate drags, the line sags, or a panel rattles every time someone walks past.
Mason Remodeling is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with ActiveYards. We install, repair, and replace ActiveYards products because Los Angeles homeowners ask for them by name, and after nearly two decades working across this city, we know which parts fail first and why.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards builds fence systems around three main residential lines: ornamental aluminum, vinyl privacy, and vinyl picket. The ornamental aluminum panels use a powder-coated finish with a lifetime limited warranty against rust-through, while the vinyl lines carry a transferable lifetime warranty against cracking and yellowing. All three share the same internal post-and-panel system, but the post dimensions differ. Aluminum lines use 2-inch square posts. Vinyl privacy panels use 5-inch posts. Vinyl picket uses 4-inch posts. If you order the wrong post size, the panel bracket will not seat, and you’ll have a fence that wobbles no matter how well you set the concrete.
To identify your exact model, look on the inside of the top rail for a small manufacturer sticker. It lists the panel line and the date code. If the sticker is gone, measure the picket width and the gap between pickets. ActiveYards aluminum panels use a standard 6-foot width with pickets spaced just under 4 inches apart. Vinyl privacy panels are also 6 feet wide but have no gaps. The aftermarket posts and brackets we source from California fence suppliers match the ActiveYards rail-to-post bracket geometry, but we’ve learned to check the bracket depth on older panels made before 2016, because those rails used a slightly deeper channel. A quality aftermarket bracket works fine on new panels; on older ones, the OEM bracket is worth the extra cost. We’ll tell you which one your fence actually needs before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your ActiveYards Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or won’t latch. The most common failure in Los Angeles isn’t the panel, it’s the gate hinge screws working loose from the post over years of sun and wind. The gate’s weight pulls the top hinge outward, the latch line shifts, and you’re out there lifting the gate by the handle just to close it.
- Post leaning after rain. If the footer concrete was poured too shallow, winter rains in the Valley and hillside areas will soften the soil and the post will start to lean. ActiveYards posts should be set a minimum of 24 inches deep in Los Angeles soil. We see 12- to 18-inch footers all the time, and the post gives way within the first two wet seasons.
- Panel rattling in the wind. The screws that lock each panel into its bracket have come loose or stripped. Aluminum fences pick up wind load, especially on hillsides in Mount Washington or Eagle Rock, and a loose panel will buzz every afternoon when the sea breeze kicks up.
- White chalky film on vinyl panels. It’s not mold. It’s calcium from hard irrigation water baked on by sun. The panel may be structurally fine, but the surface is deteriorating, and the affected area will eventually become brittle and crack.
- Bottom rail sagging between posts. The panel’s bottom rail has cracked or the internal stiffener has failed. You’ll see a dip in the fence line, usually in panels next to a gate where repeated slamming sends shock through the rails.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Complete ActiveYards fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620 for an average 100 to 150 linear feet with one gate. You’ll be on the lower end with vinyl picket on flat, open soil and on the higher end with ornamental aluminum on a hillside that needs deeper footings, extra concrete, and more labor per post. The range covers removing and hauling the old fence, setting new posts in concrete, hanging new panels, installing the gate with new hinges and a latch, and a final walkthrough with you.
We give you a written price before any work starts, and it doesn’t change unless you change the scope. That price includes all parts, hardware, concrete, disposal, and labor. You’ll see it line by line: what the panels cost, what the posts cost, what we’re charging to do the work. Everything we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything on that fence fails within a year of the completion date, we come back and fix it at no charge.

What you can safely check yourself: Is the gate hinge screwed tight into the post? Is the latch plate still aligned? Are panel screws snug? Those are ten-minute checks with a screwdriver, and if it’s just a hinge, you may not need us at all.
What goes wrong with DIY on this kind of fence is the post setting. If you dig a 24-inch hole and set a post without bracing it plumb while the concrete cures, the post will harden off-level, and the panels won’t line up. Then you’re lifting a 60-pound panel onto a crooked post, and the bracket won’t seat, and now you’ve got a half-built fence that looks worse than the one you tore out. We’ve also seen homeowners crack vinyl panels by forcing them into brackets that didn’t align. If your fence has more than one failing post or any panel damage, call us at (803) 680-2547. We’ll bring the right parts and the right post depth for Los Angeles soil.
FAQs

With proper post depth and concrete footings, an ActiveYards ornamental aluminum fence lasts 25 to 30 years in Los Angeles, and vinyl panels typically last 20 to 25 years before UV exposure makes them look worn enough to replace. The weak point in this climate is almost never the panel, it’s the gate hardware and the post footings. Call (803) 680-2547 if your fence is leaning or the gate won’t hold a latch line, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s failing before you spend anything.
An aluminum panel with a bent picket can sometimes be straightened in place, but vinyl panels can’t be structurally repaired. Cracks spread, and patching a cracked vinyl panel looks like a patch. We’ll tell you straight: if the damage is one picket on an aluminum line, a repair may make sense. If it’s a cracked vinyl panel, replace it. Estimates are free, so you’ll know before you commit.
Most complete fence replacements in Los Angeles take two to three working days, depending on the run length and how much old concrete has to be broken out. A single post replacement is usually half a day. We schedule a start date, give you the name and photo of the technician who’ll be at your door before the visit, and we show up with the parts already on the truck.
We stock the most common ActiveYards-compatible posts, brackets, gate hinges, latches, and panel sizes on our trucks, so most repairs are done the same visit. If your fence is an older model that needs an OEM-specific bracket or a custom gate width, we’ll order it, give you the exact lead time, and keep you posted. Mason Remodeling also stocks parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products elsewhere in the home.
