Barrette Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Barrette fence installation in Los Angeles typically costs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete run installed by a licensed contractor. If you’re dealing with a single failed panel, post, or gate section, most jobs come in under $2,500 depending on what actually broke and how much of the line has to come apart. We stock common Barrette-compatible hardware on the truck and can match most vinyl and aluminum profiles the same week we look at the job.
Most homeowners discover a problem when a gate starts dragging, a post leans after rain, or a panel cracks at the bottom rail where the weed trimmer hits it. By the time you notice the sag, the fastener or bracket underneath has usually been working loose for months.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette Outdoor Living makes vinyl, aluminum, and wood-composite fence systems sold through big-box retailers across Southern California. The most common lines we see in Los Angeles yards are the Barrette vinyl privacy panels with interlocking tongue-and-groove pickets, plus their aluminum spear-top and flat-top styles. The key identification point is on the inside of the post cap or the bottom rail, where Barrette stamps a small product code, usually starting with a letter followed by four digits.
The compatibility gotcha with Barrette specifically is the rail channel. Barrette’s vinyl rails use a slightly shallower channel than some other manufacturers, so a generic aftermarket rail bracket won’t seat correctly and the panel will rattle or pop out. We default to Barrette OEM components for installs, but we’ll use quality aftermarket brackets when the OEM piece is discontinued, as long as the channel depth and post profile match. If you’re not sure what series you have, send us a photo of the post cap underside before we schedule the visit. Mason Remodeling is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Barrette Outdoor Living.

Signs Your Barrette Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or won’t latch. The frame has usually racked because the post pulled slightly out of plumb, which throws the hinge alignment off. Tightening the hinge screws helps for a week, then it’s back. The post base needs resetting or a proper hinge bracket upgrade.
- Panel rattles or shifts in wind. The bottom rail bracket has cracked or the rail channel has worn loose. Southern California’s Santa Ana winds accelerate this. If the panel moves more than a quarter inch when you push it, the support is compromised.
- Post leans after heavy rain. Los Angeles clay soil expands and contracts hard with moisture. Shallow-set posts in minimal concrete footings start to drift. A post that’s off more than a few degrees needs to be dug out and re-set, not just re-plumbed at the top.
- White vinyl shows rust-colored streaks. This is from the steel reinforcing insert inside the post or rail corroding after water wicks in through a cracked cap. The rust leaches through the vinyl and won’t clean off. It’s a sign the internal metal will eventually fail.
- Bottom rail cracked or split at the picket joint. This is the classic weed-whacker and lawn-mower injury, and it starts as a hairline crack that collects moisture. Once soil gets into the seam, the rail swells and the whole panel starts to bind.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Barrette fence installation in Los Angeles, expect $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, gate count, post spacing, demolition of the old line, and whether we’re hand-digging or augering. A single failed section, post reset, or gate rebuild typically runs $350 to $2,500. You’ll get a written line-item quote before any work starts. The price we quote is the price you pay. No change orders on a properly scoped job.
Every invoice breaks out materials, labor, haul-away, and hardware separately so you can see what the Barrette components actually cost versus the labor to install them. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something moves, sags, or fails within a year of the completion date, we come back and make it right at no cost to the homeowner.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check your post caps, look for loose brackets, and note where panels are drifting. These observations are useful when you call. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling rails and re-setting posts on a shared property line without knowing Los Angeles fence setback rules and where your utility lines run. Underground service conflicts are the fastest way to turn a $600 repair into a $6,000 problem.
And if a section of wall or gate is leaning toward the sidewalk or driveway, that’s not a weekend project. That’s a liability. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and you’ll have a written number for the repair or the replacement. Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s backed up. Everything else is just noise.
FAQs

A properly installed Barrette vinyl fence lasts 20 to 30 years in Los Angeles, with aluminum pushing 30-plus. The failure point is rarely the material itself. It’s the concrete footing, the post depth, and the solar exposure on the west-facing side of the property, which breaks down vinyl faster than anything else.
Small hairline cracks at the bottom rail can sometimes be reinforced, but once a rail or picket has split through, the structural channel is compromised and the honest call is replacement. We’ll tell you which one applies when we look at it. Call (803) 680-2547 for a straight answer and a free estimate.
A single post reset or panel replacement takes us about three to five hours, including demolition, installation, and cleanup. A full Barrette fence run for a standard Los Angeles backyard runs two to four days, depending on post count, gate hardware, and whether concrete demolition is involved.
We keep common Barrette-compatible post caps, rail brackets, gate hinges, and latches on the truck. For specific panel profiles and colors, we order Barrette OEM parts and usually have them in hand within a week. If it’s discontinued, we’ll source a verified aftermarket equivalent that matches the channel dimensions. We also handle cabinet and countertop projects from brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for clients who need interior work done at the same time.
