Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Tamko driveway and paver replacement in Los Angeles typically costs $8,260 to $21,240 for a full paver driveway installation, with isolated paver repair or reset work running $295 to $1,180 depending on how many units have shifted or cracked. We stock Tamko-compatible pavers and the base materials needed to match your existing layout, and most isolated repairs are completed the same day we inspect the site. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a problem the same way: a paver sinks after a winter rain, a corner chips under a car tire, or the sand between joints washes out and weeds start pushing through. What starts as one bad paver is usually a base-layering issue underneath, and we’ll tell you honestly whether you need one paver reset or a deeper fix.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver line runs through several series: the Heritage line (interlocking concrete pavers with a tumbled, antique finish), the Metro line (smooth-faced, modular rectangles for clean modern driveways), and the Estate series (larger-format pavers often used for wider driveways and motor courts in the hillside neighborhoods). Each series uses different joint widths and thickness specs, and one of the most common mistakes we see in Los Angeles is a homeowner or handyman buying a replacement paver from a big-box store that doesn’t match the original’s height. Tamko pavers run 60mm and 80mm thick depending on the application, and a 60mm paver dropped into an 80mm driveway will sit low and create a trip edge.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Tamko, but we supply genuine Tamko units and quality aftermarket equivalents that match the existing color and profile. To identify what you have, check the side of an existing paver for a stamped batch code, or measure the thickness at an exposed edge. If you can’t find a code, send us a photo of a clean paver next to a quarter for scale, and we can usually identify the series and size before we arrive.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- One paver sits lower than its neighbors after rain. This almost always means the compacted base below has washed out or settled unevenly. Resetting the paver without fixing the base means it’ll sink again in the next rainy season.
- Weeds or ant mounds keep appearing between joints. The joint sand has broken down or washed away, giving roots and insects an open channel. Re-sanding with polymeric joint sand is usually the fix, but first we check whether the paver edges are shifting, which is a base issue.
- Edge pavers are drifting outward or the border row is separating. Driveway edges take the heavy load from cars crossing the corner. Missing or cracked edge restraints let the whole field walk outward until you see a widening gap along the border.
- A paver has cracked in a star pattern directly under where a wheel sits. That’s a point-load failure, usually because a void opened in the sand setting bed below that one spot. We remove the broken unit, re-grade the spot, and drop in the match.
- You notice fading, chalking, or surface spalling across a wide area. Los Angeles sun and hard water from sprinkler overspray can break down the surface sealer over time. Early re-sealing protects the units; ignoring it leads to pitting and replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles, isolated Tamko paver repair or reset work lands between $295 and $1,180, depending on how many units need to come out and whether we need to re-grade the base below. A full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240, which includes removal and haul-off of the old surface, base excavation and compaction, new sand setting bed, paver layout and cutting, joint sand, and a final compaction pass. The spread in price comes from driveway size, access (hillside driveways in places like Mount Washington or Silver Lake add delivery and equipment challenges), and whether we’re matching an existing paver field or starting fresh.
Every job gets a written price before work starts, itemized so you see material costs, labor, hauling, and disposal separately. Our work is covered for 365 days from the completion date through the Done Right Promise; if a paver sinks or a joint fails within that year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Pavers are one of the safer driveway surfaces to work on, and there are a handful of things a homeowner can honestly handle: pulling a loose paver and packing new sand underneath it, brushing fresh joint sand into dry gaps, and spot-treating weeds between joints. Where DIY goes wrong is when the base has failed. If you reset a paver on a washed-out base, it will sink again within months, and you’ll be out the sweat equity and the sand.
The other place DIY goes sideways is color matching. Tamko runs shift slightly between production years, and a paver that looks “close enough” in a photo will be obviously wrong when it’s sitting in your driveway. We keep a range of Tamko-supplied and matched aftermarket pavers in stock, and we’ll bring samples to your house before we quote the job. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll walk you through what you’re seeing.
FAQs

Tamko concrete pavers in Los Angeles generally last 25 to 40 years before units need replacement, but the joints and sealer will need attention every 3 to 5 years because our dry-rain cycle and hard water accelerate sand washout and surface hazing. With proper joint maintenance and base care, the pavers themselves rarely fail; the system around them is what needs upkeep. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll tell you what your driveway actually needs vs. what it could wait on.
A cracked paver cannot be glued back to structural strength, so the practical answer is no; the broken unit gets lifted out and replaced with a matching paver. If the crack came from a base void, we re-grade that spot before setting the new unit, otherwise the replacement will crack the same way within a year. Call (803) 680-2547 for an exact quote; we’ll bring color-matched options to your door.
Most isolated paver resets or replacements take 2 to 4 hours, including base spot-repair and final joint sanding; a full paver driveway installation in Los Angeles runs 2 to 4 days depending on size and access. Weather rarely delays paver work here, since we can compact and set in almost any condition short of actual rain. We’ll give you a written timeline with your written price.
We stock common Tamko Heritage and Metro pavers in standard Los Angeles colorways (charcoal, terracotta blend, sandstone) at our local yard, plus matched aftermarket units for the Estate line. Less common colors or large-format units may need a 3 to 5 day special order, which we confirm on the quote. Call (803) 680-2547 with a photo of your driveway and we’ll check stock before we come out.
