CertainTeed Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible roofing materials across Los Angeles, with typical roof repairs running $470 – $2,125 and full CertainTeed roof replacements landing between $9,440 and $23,600 depending on square footage, pitch, and tear-off needs. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover they have a roofing problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a rare winter rain, granules collecting in the gutter after a Santa Ana wind event, or a shingle that peeled loose and showed up in the yard. If you’re reading this, you probably already know something’s wrong and you want to know exactly what it will cost to make it right.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes several distinct roofing lines, and the part you need depends on which one is on your roof. The most common we see in Los Angeles are Landmark (their architectural asphalt shingle, which covers the bulk of LA homes), XT 25 (their three-tab entry line), and Presidential Shake (their premium dimensional shingle that mimics hand-split cedar). If you’re in the hills or a fire-prone zone, you may have the Belmont or Grand Manor line, which carries a heavier Class A fire rating. The fastest way to identify your shingle: look for the CertainTeed stamp on the underside of a loose piece, or check the paperwork from your last reroof. If you don’t have either, measure the exposure (the visible portion of the shingle). Landmark runs a standard 5⅝-inch exposure; Presidential runs 8 inches. Getting this right matters because mixing lines, even between CertainTeed series, voids the manufacturer warranty and creates an ice-dam seam that fails early. We carry OEM CertainTeed stock and quality aftermarket flashings and underlayment, and we’ll tell you plainly which makes sense for your roof. Mason Remodeling is an independent contractor and not affiliated with CertainTeed, but we install their materials daily and know the compatibility gotchas.

Signs Your CertainTeed Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, but heavy granule loss on an LA roof often means UV degradation is accelerating. Once the granule layer thins, the asphalt underneath bakes and cracks. You’ll see this worst on south-facing slopes that take direct sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Curling or cupping shingle edges. This is a moisture-and-heat problem: shingles expand in the afternoon sun and contract at night. After 15 – 20 summers in Los Angeles, the corners lift permanently, and the next strong wind gets under them.
  • Water stains on ceilings or inside gable walls. In LA, rain is rare but when it comes, it finds every failed seam at once. A rusty nail pop or a torn underlayment will show up as a brown ring the first big storm after the failure.
  • Missing or lifted shingles after wind events. The Santa Anas routinely hit 40 – 60 mph through the passes. A CertainTeed roof properly nailed with six fasteners per shingle holds; one installed with four nails and high nails will lose pieces every season.
  • Cracked or brittle shingles visible from the ground. If you can see fissures running through the shingle body, the asphalt has lost its flexibility. It will not reseal, and replacement is the only fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, here’s what you should budget. A targeted CertainTeed roof repair, replacing failed shingles and sealing nail pops, runs $470 – $2,125 depending on how many squares are involved and how steep the access is. A full CertainTeed Landmark tear-off and replacement on a standard 1,500-square-foot LA home typically falls between $9,440 and $23,600. The spread comes down to three things: roof pitch (anything over 6/12 costs more in labor), the number of roof penetrations (skylights, vents, chimneys each add flashing work), and whether the existing underlayment is salvageable or must be replaced. Every quote we write includes materials, tear-off and haul-away, labor, and a written price before work starts. You’ll know the exact number before a single shingle is pulled. Our workmanship warranty runs 365 days from completion; if something fails inside that window, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect a roof from the ground with binoculars, clean your gutters, and take photos of anything that looks wrong. What you should not do is climb onto an LA roof with a bundle of shingles and a nail gun. Roof work at height is how people get hurt, and the time to learn that is not when you’re 20 feet up on a 5/12 pitch in the afternoon sun. CertainTeed shingles also require a specific nailing pattern and sealant activation that only happens under proper installation conditions. If you install a row wrong, the wind finds it within a year. Call (803) 680-2547 and we’ll do a proper inspection and give you a written number. You’ll know who’s coming before they arrive, what the job costs, and exactly what’s covered.
