Wellborn Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock, match, and install window and door parts for Wellborn cabinetry applications across Los Angeles, and most replacements land between $945 and $3,540 installed, depending on the hardware style and whether hinges, glides, or full door panels need swapping. If your Wellborn window seat cabinet door is sagging, your vanity door won’t stay closed, or a drawer front is pulling away from the box, you already know the frustration. The good news is that Wellborn uses fairly standard hinge boring and door thicknesses on most of their lines, which means we carry compatible replacements on the truck and can usually complete the fix in one visit.

A quick note on who we are: Mason Remodeling is an independent Los Angeles service provider. We’re not owned by or affiliated with Wellborn, but we’ve installed and repaired their cabinetry, window seats, and door systems across the San Fernando Valley, the Westside, and Pasadena for nearly two decades. Isaac Pruett, our owner, cut his teeth reading cabinet plans at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and still checks every piece of trim and door alignment before calling a job done.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds several cabinet lines, and the window and door hardware varies slightly between them. The Estate Series, Premiere Series, and Select Series are the three you’re most likely to have in a Los Angeles home, and they account for the majority of the Wellborn work we see. Estate tends to use soft-close hinges with 35mm cup boring and door thicknesses right at 3/4 inch. Select, the entry line, often has standard European-style hinges with the same 35mm boring but a lighter-duty clip mechanism that fails sooner, especially in high-humidity kitchens near the coast.

How to identify what you have: open the door and look at the hinge cup (the round recess drilled into the back of the door). Nearly all Wellborn lines use a 35mm cup. The distance from the door edge to the cup center is usually 22.5mm or 37mm depending on the overlay, and that measurement is the single most important thing we need to match a replacement correctly.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Los Angeles homeowners: post-2015 Wellborn cabinets use a slightly different clip geometry than the 2008-2014 era, even on the same series name. If you order a hinge based on “Estate Series” alone, you may end up with a clip that doesn’t snap onto the mounting plate. We keep both clip generations on hand and verify the mounting-plate screw pattern before we sell a part.

OEM versus aftermarket is the honest conversation we have every week. Wellborn’s OEM hinges (typically Blum or Grass, depending on the year) are solid, but you’ll often wait 2-3 weeks for a dealer order and pay a 30-50% premium over a quality aftermarket equivalent from the same manufacturer. For most homeowners, a Blum aftermarket hinge with the correct overlay and clip generation is functionally identical to what Wellborn shipped originally. Where we do recommend OEM is on decorative hardware, like glass-door mullion frames or wine racks, where pattern matching matters and aftermarket look-alikes just don’t match.

Signs Your Wellborn Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Door won’t stay fully closed or bounces back open. The spring inside the hinge clip has lost tension or the clip itself has cracked. In coastal Los Angeles neighborhoods like Playa del Rey or Long Beach, salt air accelerates that clip fatigue by a couple of years compared to inland homes.
  • Door sags enough to scrape the face frame at the top or bottom. This usually means the hinge cup screws have stripped out of the particleboard or MDF door core. It’s a material failure, not a hinge failure, and it needs a dowel-and-glue repair before a new hinge goes in.
  • The soft-close feature stopped working on one door but works on all the others. The damper piston inside the hinge cup has blown, which is the most common Wellborn hardware failure we see. It’s a $15-$25 hinge replacement if we catch it before the misalignment from the broken damper damages the door edge.
  • Drawer front is still attached but has a visible gap at one corner. The dovetail glue joint has failed, or the front is held by a stripped screw. Los Angeles homes with big swings between dry heat and humid winter months stress these joints more than you’d think.
  • Glass cabinet door (mullion) is cracked or the wood frame has separated at a corner joint. This is a structural issue, not a hardware issue, and it’s the one repair where we strongly recommend replacing the entire door panel rather than gluing the old one back together.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

For Los Angeles, here’s what we quote on Wellborn window and door work:

  • Single hinge replacement (parts + labor): $45-$95 per hinge, depending on clip style and access.
  • Full door re-hang with all three hinges replaced and door adjusted: $175-$295 per door.
  • Drawer front re-attachment or glide replacement (single drawer): $95-$220.
  • Glass mullion door replacement (custom-ordered panel): $525-$1,100 per door depending on size and frame profile.
  • Full cabinet door replacement (standard slab or shaker in matching finish through our Wellborn supplier): $245-$620 per door.

Every quote includes the part, the labor, and disposal of the old hardware. What drives the range: door size, whether we’re matching a painted finish or a stained wood grain, and whether the hinge plate needs repositioning because the original mounting holes are wallowed out. We put the price in writing before any work starts, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Window and door hardware on Wellborn cabinetry isn’t dangerous to work on the way a garage-door spring or electrical panel is. You can safely check a few things before calling: look for the brand stamp on the hinge cup (Blum or Grass), measure the distance from the door edge to the cup center, and note whether the door has one overlay or a full-overlay profile. The place DIY goes sideways is ordering the wrong clip generation or wrong overlay and drilling new cup holes into a door that can’t handle more holes. If the hinge screws just spin, don’t keep drilling, and don’t apply wood glue or toothpicks unless you’ve done that repair before. A stripped hinge cup on a Wellborn door is a five-minute repair for us, and a ruined door is a $200+ mistake for a homeowner. Call (803) 680-2547 if you’d rather have it matched and done right the first time.
